Flashlights from Workshop “Unlocking the Next Frontier in Chemical Research: The Opportunity of Open Data, Open Access, Integrated Workflows and Artificial Intelligence”, April 9, Berlin.
Several experts from IUPAC, CCDC, InChI trusts, NFDI4Chem, publishers and libraries meet at the Wiley Offices in Berlin on April 9 for the Workshop “Unlocking the Next Frontier in Chemical Research: The Opportunity of Open Data, Open Access, Integrated Workflows and Artificial Intelligence”. The workshop, held on invitation by Wiley, focused on advancing data management practices in chemistry.
Takeaways
The group discussed essential areas like promoting good research practices by teaching data and documentation skills, trust building by reliable validation mechanisms built upon standards in a user-friendly infrastructure. Participants emphasized the importance of recognizing contributors through incentives and ROI models, and fostering a culture of transparency, ethics, and accountability.
Key takeaways included the need for shared responsibility across stakeholders, forming a coalition for standardization, and embedding quality checkpoints throughout the research lifecycle. The workshop concluded with a call to develop a Perspective Paper to advocate for these priorities. Task Area leads Sonja Herres-Pawlis and Oliver Koepler contributed NFDI4Chem’s perspective and expertise.
