Chemistry and pharmacy are now even more closely linked: thanks to the collaboration between NFDI4Chem and PubPharm, the Specialist Information Service (FID) for Pharmacy, the NFDI4Chem Search Service’s database is now fully indexed on the PubPharm portal. Pharmaceutical researchers can therefore find chemical research data directly within their usual research environment.

What’s behind it?
The NFDI4Chem Search Service brings together research data from various chemical repositories in one central location, currently comprising over 170,000 data records. These include, amongst others, MassBank, the Chemotion Repository, nmrXiv, DaRUS and RADAR4Chem. The service contains analytical data sets such as mass, NMR and IR spectra, as well as molecular information and results from fundamental chemical research.
PubPharm is the central search platform of the DFG-funded Specialised Information Service for Pharmacy, which is operated by the Braunschweig University Library in collaboration with the Institute for Information Systems at the Technical University of Braunschweig. It brings together pharmaceutically relevant sources such as literature, clinical trials and research data within a single portal.
Advantages
- Direct access: Chemical research data can now be searched specifically for pharmaceutical enquiries. Anyone conducting research in PubPharm will find relevant data sets from the field of chemistry straight away.
- Always up to date: An automated metadata exchange ensures seamless and up-to-date search results. New data sets in the connected repositories are therefore made visible via PubPharm in a timely manner.
- Interdisciplinary: The integration enhances the visibility and re-use of chemical data across disciplinary boundaries. Data generated in chemistry can thus support new research questions in pharmacy, and vice versa.
- Expanded database: PubPharm is broadening its scope beyond pure literature. Pharmaceutical research and primary data published in repositories indexed by the NFDI4Chem Search Service are now directly accessible via PubPharm.
A win for FAIR Data
This collaboration demonstrates how research data infrastructures can interlink. Data that is findable and accessible is also more easily reusable. A shared metadata repository also makes it interoperable. For researchers, this means less time spent searching and more opportunities to make use of existing data.
