RADAR4Chem Release 1.25

Summary

The latest RADAR4Chem release introduces an updated metadata schema and automatic generation of RO-Crate metadata files, making research data easier to describe, discover, and access programmatically. The release also includes bug fixes, technical upgrades, and ongoing software maintenance.

RADAR Metadata Schema v9.3

RADAR has been updated to Metadata Schema v9.3, aligning with the current DataCite Metadata Kernel 4.7. The update introduces an optional Version metadata element, laying the groundwork for a future versioning feature in RADAR4Chem.

The new schema is available through the metadata editor, XML import, and RADAR REST API. It is fully backward-compatible with previous schema versions.

Automatic Generation of RO-Crate Metadata Files

RADAR4Chem now automatically generates an RO-Crate metadata file (ro-crate-metadata.json) for published and archived datasets. Available for download from the corresponding dataset landing page, this file describes dataset structure and metadata in a standardized, machine-readable format.

The file also complements RADAR4Chem’s streaming functionality for individual files and folders within dataset archives (TAR files). Acting as a machine-readable table of contents, it enables applications to identify and retrieve individual files and folders programmatically.

Please note: RO-Crate metadata files are being generated progressively and may not yet be available for all datasets.

Bug Fixes, Technical Upgrades, and Maintenance

As part of the ongoing development of RADAR4Chem, this release includes bug fixes and updates to core frameworks and libraries, helping improve system stability, maintainability, and long-term sustainability.
